Dance Your Way Through Life!

Solo Woman, Free Spirit

-By Christine Lewis

The whole world is out there waiting to be explored! Take your first step into solo adventure, and you may never need to endure a bad travel partner or stay home again. Solo travel enables you to meet the people. Sometimes when you are traveling with someone else you tend to stay in that comfort zone of speaking your own language and seeing only the touristy spots, rather than just jumping right in. I am a single woman and I travel around the world by myself. The way I do this is I place myself in situations where I know I will, without any uncertainty, meet the people native to that country face to face. How do I do this? I dance my way through life! In each country I visit, I seek out the most popular place for dancing the traditional dance of that country. I Salsa in Puerto Rico, Samba in Brazil, Tango in Argentina, Cumbia in Columbia, Meringue in Venezuela and all of the above in Mexico, which is right at our door step.

Men have been exploring for ever and now women have the opportunity to explore as well. Everything unknown is scary until you try it. Once you do, you will never be caught staying at home. You’ll be too busy dreaming up your next adventure!

You owe it to yourself to go and experience whatever it is that interests and excites you! Live with passion! Dance your way thru life! You don’t need a man or a travel partner to make it safe for you. Common sense, a watchful eye and a desire to see the world, is all you need!

To begin, I first ask myself, what place do I really want to experience? What place have I always wanted to visit and why? I, myself, am partial to the Latin countries although I have blonde hair and blue eyes and don’t completely blend in as a native. (Only because of my coloring, otherwise I make myself right at home!)

Once I have decided on my destination, I next find a great price on airfare. Many people stay at home because they don’t think they can afford to take a trip. There are always great deals if that is what you are looking for. There are plenty of wholesale travel outlets and the internet has made it so easy.

Next, I make a list of hotels in my price range and mark the hotels near to the sights I would like to see.

Then I read up on the country I will be visiting and take a dance lesson on the dance most popular in that country. One of the other things I will research, thru the hotels, is the opportunity to be able to take dance lessons while I am in that country.

In Buenos Aries, group classes are $5.00 and you get 3 hours of both practice and instruction. In the afternoon you can go to Milonga, dance, go back to your hotel and rest up for the dancing you will be doing till dawn.

Taxis most places I have traveled, are plentiful and inexpensive. Don’t be afraid to talk to strangers. I constantly stop people on the street and ask for directions, and or, strike up a conversation with them.

When you travel alone you have to make contact with the people, sights alone are never enough. It is the experience that you share with the people that will provide you with the most cherished and memorable experiences.
